Thanks for this concise summary. I’ve been following the story as it developed. It reveals both the worst and the best aspects of academics (especially medievalists), and of Twitter! I have created alternate social media accounts, but am glad I maintained the Twitter account because it’s hard to envision this story playing out effectively on Post or Mastodon.
Utterly fascinating stuff I would have otherwise had no clue about if not for this post.
The truly surreal part is Receptio doubling-down on the whole affair (thereby attracting more negative attention to themselves) instead of going "whoops! our fault, what can we do to make this right?" and de-escalating the entire situation.

Yes, I read about it today and it’s totally wild! I don’t think Receptio will come out of this unscathed.
